By Robert Morales —

The public is invited to attend this informative meeting at 5:30 p m at the El Capitan Hotel conference room. The research team is looking for maps or photos of the old highway so if you have items related, please bring them to the event.

The Bankhead Highway was one of the nation's earliest transcontinental highways. Its beginnings can be traced back to 1916 when the Bankhead Highway Association was organized to promote the highway's development. The roadway extended from Washington, D.C. to San Diego, California, by way of Alabama, home of U.S. Senator John H. Bankhead, and a major supporter of the highway.
