Let's Talk with Tony McCreery

By Tony McCreery, Pastor First Baptist Church —

We are at the time of year for Thanksgiving. This is the time when we all gather around the table to eat turkey, ham, all the trimmings, and who can forget sweet potato pie. Then after we are all so full we can hardly move we retire to the sofa to watch Cowboy football, hopefully they win it!

It is so easy to get caught up in the family time and the all the excitement of being together that we forget what true Thanksgiving is.

We are all here because God created us and placed us here. Everything that we have is a gift from God. No matter what we do, where we live, or what we have God gives us every good and perfect gift! Psalm 100 is one of the most popular songs of thanksgiving. Israel sang this psalm on their way to worship at the Temple and recalled all that God had done and was doing.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:4-5

No matter what is going on, or where we have been, we can enter into God's gates with praise and Thanksgiving. He gives us all that we have, He is the savior, and He has forgiven all our sins when we ask Him. This year, recognize that the food you eat on Thanksgiving, and every other day, is a gift from God. Thank Him for what He has given to you. The Lord is good. His love for you never ends. He is faithful in all His promises.
