Eagles win season opener against Tornillo 21-7

Courtesy Coach Brian Gibson

The Van Horn Eagles opened the season in grand fashion last Friday night in Tornillo.  The Eagles took the opening kickoff from Tornillo and began the season’s first plays on offense.

The Eagles offense marched steadily down the field converting two 3rd downs culminating with a touchdown.  After the stifling Eagle defense limited the Coyotes to a 3 and out, the Eagle offense turned the ball back to Tornillo who capitalized on the Van Horn mistake and made the score 7-6 Tornillo.  The Van Horn Eagles scored the last two touchdowns of the game and finished off the opener with a 21-7 victory. The Eagle defense stole the show on Friday night limiting the Coyotes to only 77 yards of total offense.

The Eagles open their home schedule of the season Friday night September 5 against the Alpine Bucks.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.  Come out and support the Eagles and experience the game in our brand new athletic complex.
