Woman dies in rollover accident on I-10

Anatina C. Weidmann, 24, a passenger riding in a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup, died at the scene of a rollover accident at around 6:30 p.m. last Sunday.

According to Sheriff Oscar Carrillo, Ms. Weidmann had only been in the United States for a few days. She is believed to be a native of Sweden.

The driver, Daniel Porras, 33, from The Woodlands and Ms. Weidmann were apparently headed from the Houston area to San Francisco for potential work, said Mr. Carrillo. Mr. Porras was treated and released from Culberson Hospital.

According to Mr. Carrillo and a media report issued by Sgt. Elizabeth Barney of the El Paso Department of Public Safety, the vehicle was traveling westbound on I-10. At around mile marker 161, the left rear tire of the pickup suffered a rapid loss of air and the vehicle drifted into the center median for amount a tenth of a mile.

The driver took faulty evasive action by over-correcting the vehicle back onto the roadway, and after it entered back onto the interestate, the pickup rolled an undetermined amount of times.

The accident was investigated by Culberson County state troopers.
