Lady Eagles improve to 4-0 in district play

BY COACH VICTOR PALLARES

On Tuesday night, the Lady Eagles defeated the El Paso Davinci Lady Dragons, 68-10. The Lady Eagles started off the game with an impressive run in the 1st quarter, outscoring their opponent 27-3. The Eagles continue to execute well on the defensive side of the court.

Kianna Fierro scored 18 points while Karina Ramirez and Calise Cottrell both ended the night with 10 points each. Last night’s win brings the overall district record to 4-0 and 18-4 overall.

The ladies are working hard to achieve a second consecutive playoff berth. One of the reasons the Lady Eagles are having such a great season is their belief in team play and dedication to their teammates. Ramirez believes her teammates are more than just friends. She believes the team is becoming a family. Fellow senior, Cassandra Castro, points out that each person brings something special to the team. “Each one of us contributes to the team in our own special way,” said Castro.

As a coach, I would like to point out how important senior leadership has been this season. Our three seniors, Fierro, Ramirez, and Castro have been great leaders on and off the court. They lead by example and work hard to ensure their teammates are learning the game. Fierro has been a great asset in working with the younger girls in further developing their skills and their confidence. Fierro states, “I am very proud to be their teammate and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
