Students compete at UIL competition in Odessa

BY PAM YOUNG

The Region I AA UIL Academic Meet was held last Saturday in Odessa, at Odessa College. At least nine districts were there to compete for an opportunity to qualify for the State Academic Meet in late May. Each event had 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place District winners entered.

VHHS was there with 24 anxious students to compete in a myriad of events spanning the spectrum from writing to soeaking, to science, math, and social studies events, and everything in between.

The local students did their best, and the competition was fierce. Only one student, Darden Morris qualified for state, winning 2nd Place in Prose Interpretation.  Cami Uranga also made it to the finals in Poetry Interpretation,  but did not place in the top three.

Congratulations to Darden, on her stellar performance,  and best of luck at the State Academic Meet on May 26 and 27. Also, to all the other VHHS Academians, we’re very proud of you, your accomplishments this year are amazing!
