CCAISD trustees on Monday selected Dalia Benavides as the lone finalist for the district’s new superintendent. Ms. Benavides currently serves as middle school principal at Big Spring Independent School District.

However, Ms. Benavides has earned degrees from Sul Ross State University and University of Texas at the Permian Basin. She has 27 years of education in education.
Following a short closed session, Paul Uranga, board president introduced Ms. Benavides. He also thanked the board for going through a very rigorous vetting process over the last few days.
Afterward, Chief Financial Officer Julie Uranga administered the oath of office to newly elected board member Jack Dorris. The board thanked outgoing trustee Lisa Cottrell for her many years of service to CCAISD.
Interim Superintendent Debbie Engle announced that Chris Wilson had been hired as the new shop teacher to replace Joy Scott and that Jasmine Tarango was hired as an elementary teacher to replace Barbara Smith. In addition, Lindsey Tyrrell has tendered her resignation. That leaves a math teaching position available.
Next, the board voted on reorganization of officers. Trustees voted for Paul Uranga as president; Rocio Onate as vice-president and Letty Hernandez as secretary.
