The “Super Hero Team” turned out to celebrate National Hospital Week, May 11 to 17, and National Nurse’s Week, May 6 to12.

Culberson Hospital and Van Horn Rural Health Clinic staff donned their Super Hero t-shirts as part of a weeklong series of events designed to recognize and thank them for their truly heroic efforts throughout the year to improve the quality of life for Van Horn and the surrounding communities.

According to Jonathon Voelkel, Hospital Administrator, “Dedication and Compassionate Care from the Heart,” was the theme of this year’s National Hospital Week celebrated by hospitals across the country.

“But everyone on our team including providers, EMS staff, nurses, housekeeping, business office, physical therapy, laboratory, imaging, medical records, goes above and beyond to be our community’s super heroes,”  said Voelkel.

During the week, staff was treated to themed meals including a Polynesian feast, a Western barbeque and an ice cream sundae bar.

A series of games, such as pong, wii bowling, ring toss and shake it out, were enjoyed by all, with prizes awarded to the winners.  Several employees also received door prizes.

“Nurse’s Week and Hospital Week overlap every year, so it makes sense to get everyone together to show our appreciation for all that they do,” said Voelkel.  “Regardless of the job each individual performs at the hospital or clinic, everyone works together to provide high quality healthcare with a kind and caring attitude for our community.”
