The Town of Van Horn City Council met yesterday morning, with Mayor Pro Tem, Pam Young, presiding in the absence of Mayor Glenn Humphries.  City Administrator, Fran Malafronte, recommended renewing the annual license agreement for mining caliche with El Paso Water Utilities Board for $1,000.

Council heard from Water/Gas Manager, Dion Corralez, and Chad Harvey with West Texas Water Well Service concerning the status of the Thrift Well. Corralez and Harvey recommended that the frequently repaired Thrift Well be worked on and repaired at $27,714 plus approximately $2500 for installing a motor into an aboveground area for sustained life of the unit.  Harvey personally guaranteed that his work would fix the ongoing problems which have plagued the Thrift Well and that he would be back at any time if he was needed.

Ms. Malafronte advised Council that according to the Department of Labor, three City Employees needed overtime pay and job classification change.  All other employees’ status is acceptable to the Labor Board.

The next City Council meeting is scheduled for July 26, at 9:00 a.m. due to vacation times of the Mayor and some Aldermen.  August meetings will return to regular scheduled days.
