The Lady Eagles fell short in pool play at the Monahan’s Tournament.  Coach Erica Urias said, “We played tough and made some excellent plays and they had courage and stood toe to toe with some big schools today and we never backed down.” “This quick play is excellent experience for our team and we’ll carry it with us as the season moves forward and amidst the misfortune of being down one player, our team is standing tall.”  Standing tall seems to be an understatement as the Lady Eagles were in position to beat any of the class 4A and 5A teams they faced.

The Lady Eagles team dug deep against 5A Parkland Matadors with scores at 23-25 and 23-25 Parkland.  Coach Urias said that the girls have stepped up their game and continue to show great promise.  The ladies received encouragement and praise from several coaches on how much fight the girls continue to display.  The team faced high caliber games that opened their eyes to a playoff environment they hope to contend in.

The Lady Eagles traveled to Ft. Stockton Tuesday playing the undefeated Lady Prowlers.  The Freshmen and JV teams fell short and struggled to maintain composure explained Coach Urias. They had a few good plays but just couldn’t get much started on their end.  Coach Urias pointed out that the Freshmen and JV teams will continue to focus on fundamentals and work to increase their confidence as the season progresses.

The Varsity team came out swinging, taking down the Lady Prowlers in the first set 25-21.  Coach Urias said, “Unfortunately, after very long rallies, our team was the one with the most mistakes.  We played two hours of volleyball and hung on for a while.  We just couldn’t finish in the end.  Regardless, this is still great experience for the Lady Eagles as we continue to raise the bar.  Each week we’re getting stronger and playing smarter.  We just need to work on our consistency.”  The tide turned with the second set at 13-25, third set 20-25, fourth set 19-25 Ft. Stockton.

The Lady Eagles continue play this weekend as they kickoff the school year with the VHHS Varsity Volleyball Tournament on Friday and Saturday.  The Lady Eagles first scheduled game Friday is at 8:00 a.m. against the Fort Davis Indians.
