By Edna Clark

Thursday, December 1st, was a special day for 15 homeschool students and parents who were able to see the University of Texas, El Paso, (UTEP) production of the ballet, The Nutcracker.

This ballet was choreographed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and debuted in 1891 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Since the original production, The Nutcracker has been produced and enjoyed by millions around the world. UTEP annually offers this amazing, cultural work every Christmas season in afternoon matinees for area school children.

The Nutcracker field trip was incorporated into the home school youngsters’ curriculum of the Arts, Social Studies, Language Arts, Science, and Mathematics.
