The Culberson County-Allamoore ISD Board of Trustees adopted a Classroom Technology Purchasing Plan and an Athletics Uniform Purchasing Plan at its meeting held January 29.
The Technology Plan calls for the immediate purchase of 30 student computers this fiscal year ($30K) and 30 computers next fiscal year to replace the 60 outdated computers on the secondary campus. The goal is to provide all high school students with access to a laptop computer for the school year. The plan also calls for using $15K in grant funds to purchase eight “tech tubs” with six computers each for the middle school campus.
The Athletics Uniform Purchasing Plan authorizes the purchase of 60 new football uniforms for $11,000 in a deal with Nike which will provide a $6,000 credit which can be redirected for other needs such as new PE uniforms. Nike is also offering to provide new volleyball uniforms for $2,400 with a $3,000 credit. The new band uniforms previously ordered should be arriving in February.
And finally, the Board was informed that the District cafeteria was awarded an NSLP grant in the amount of $93,600 to replace the old equipment in the cafeteria.
The Board was also informed that the District received a $75,000 grant from Chevron for STEM and teacher development.
The District called the General Election for Saturday, May 5, 2018 for the election of Trustees. The election will again be held jointly with the Town of Van Horn. The deadline to file for a place on the ballot is Friday, February 16, 2018. Terms are up for Jack Dorris and Rocio Apgar.
Sondra McCoy, Secondary Assistant Principal, presented the “2016-2017 Texas Academic Performance Report” showing that the District “Met Standard” for the 2017 Accountability Rating and “Meets Requirements” for the 2017 Special Education Determination Status.McCoy outlined the improvements that the District has made during the last year.The entire 23-page report can be found at the TEA website: https://rptsvr1.tea.texas.gov/perfreport/tapr/2017/srch.html?srch=D
In other business, the CCAISD Board members:
- Accepted a bid from Texas Fire Code Consulting.
- Accepted two High School employee resignations: Macyn Morriss and Joel Martinez.
- Approved the development of a student drug testing policy.
- Authorized the District to seek bids for the 2018-2019 E-rate cycle 21.
- Learned that Community Dental for Kids will be a Dental Partner with CCAISD.
- Discussed the Van Horn Vision.
