Keeping our District and Community safe during this time

By Ken Baugh, CCAISD Superintendent

Though we are not together, we at the school continue to support you and think about you every day. As a community we must work together to fight COVID-19. On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, the Governor of Texas issued an Executive Order that includes no at school premises lessons (home lessons only) until May, 4, 2020. You can go to our website and link into the full executive order. In order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the school will be reaching out to you via email, text message, and social media over the next several weeks to share important public health guidance, meals, and at home lessons. When essential staff must come into our buildings, we implement protocols for safety based on the best science for preventing the spread of COVID-19.

We will continue to serve school meals. We serve any child 18 years old and under. They do not have to be enrolled at our school. The child no longer has to be present upon delivery. Let us know if you need meals. See the add in this paper with a form to fill out or call someone you know. You can just drive through the main driveway in front of the school from 11AM to 1PM Monday through Friday and we will hand you your meals. If you can not get to the school, let us know, we will deliver to your home. We serve 100 to 300 meals a day. Friday, 4-3-20, we are grilling the burgers on our grill outside. We have the hamburger patties that everyone likes at our concessions as a little extra treat.

Those students who had internet and computers or smartphones with teachers who are already used to online lessons have already been doing school work. PreK has been sending out Youtube story time and reading lessons. Music class has Youtube music. Band has had online lessons. Several other teachers have started. It is now time for all students to get started. We made phone calls last week to find out who has and who needs the internet and/or computers. We have about 380 students. We need to get out about 150 computers and get the internet to about 70 households. We have the computers and our staff is already in contact with internet providers to set up service to homes. Phone calls started going out Thursday, 4-2-20, to schedule a pick up time for computers. Setting up the internet at homes started on Tuesday, 3-31-20. We are looking at a few very remote locations to see what we can get accomplished. We realize that our survey last week could be confusing because the information was occasionally at conflict in the same household. Do not worry, we are calling you to make sure of what you need. Start contacting us on Monday, 4-6-20, if you think we missed you.

Construction is still underway at the new athletic complex. We have heard from several folks that a walking path would be a nice addition. We are looking into that and it may be possible. The complex will get finished before we are released from the COVID-19 restrictions. But, you can bet that once we are past this flu emergency, our town will have a big celebration at our new athletic complex. Just hang in there. We will get our school back open, get your kids up here, and live life like we are supposed to. God Bless, be kind to one another. See you soon!
