Last Friday was the 2021 Homecoming for all Van Horn Eagles, past, present and future. After a week filled with fun activities such as dress-up days, a parade and a bonfire; the stage was set for the football game against the Fort Hancock Mustangs.

The game started off with a bang as Jr #7 Elijah Gaines snagged an interception and returned it 43 yards for a touchdown! This gave the Eagles the lead early and they never looked back. Thanks to some excellent blocking, running, passing and overall shut down defense, the Eagles defeated the Mustangs shortly after the third quarter started by a score of 51-6. Coach Tyrrell commented on the game, “We were proud of how hard our boys worked tonight. They really played well together as a team and it showed through in a big way. It was a great team win! Now we have to focus on the next game and continue to improve and grow as a team.”

Some notable performances from last weeks game came from Elijah Gaines who had 3 Interceptions two of which were returned for touchdowns, 6 rushes for 75 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, Bryce Virdell with 12 rushes for 122 yards and 1 touchdown, Jermaine Corralez with 2 completions on 2 attempts for 31 yards and 1 touchdown, 3 rushes for 18 yards and 1 touchdown, and 1 reception for 34 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Eagles will travel to Buena Vista on Friday, October 22nd to open up District play.
