On May 7, Israel Tarango, Jr., competed in the State UIL Social Studies competition at the University of Texas in Austin. He qualified by placing 2nd in the contest at the Regional level. Although he did not place in the top 10, Israel is commended for reaching the State level, something that has not been accomplished in UIL Social Studies by a Van Horn student for many years.
Also making the trip to Austin was Sarah Allen, who was 1st alternate for Region 2 in Social Studies and 2nd alternate for Feature Writing.
