Garibay and Franco prepare for rematch in County Commissioner Precinct 1 runoff

Frank Franco and Cornelio “Naniz” Garibay are facing off yet again over the County Commissioner Precinct 1 seat in Culberson County.

As in 2016, Franco forced Garibay into a runoff this year after neither candidate secured a majority of the vote in March’s three-way Democratic Primary. The May 24 primary runoff election will determine who will go on to serve the rest of the term that was left vacant after the sudden passing of Javier “Harvey” Mendoza late last year.

Early voting at the courthouse began on Monday, May 16 and ends Friday, May 20.

Run-off election day is Tuesday, May 24. Polling places in all precincts for the joint Democratic and Republican run-off election will be open on Tuesday. Precinct 1 will be the only local race on the ballot in addition to other statewide races.
