Visitor Fatality at Guadalupe Mountains National Park

Sunday, April 28, 2019 at approximately 10:40 a.m. rangers at Guadalupe Mountains National Park received a report of a 71 year-old male hiker along the Guadalupe Peak trail in need of medical assistance. Rescuers responding to the call, located the hiker several miles from the trail head. Life-saving efforts were not able to revive the individual. Resuscitation efforts were discontinued as per medical direction at 11:35 a.m. on Sunday, April 28.

The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of the next of kin. No additional information is available at this time.

This incident is not related to the resolved search efforts for the hiker that had been missing since Friday, April 26, 2019.

Guadalupe Mountain National Park staff encourages all visitors to stay safe while hiking in the park by staying on designated trails, remaining hydrated and keeping a safe distance from wildlife.
