Officials received a report of a vehicle overturned in a pasture last Saturday morning around 8:00 a.m. about 16 miles southwest of Pine Springs on US Hwy 62. Van Horn Highway Patrol responded and found 28 year old Abdiel Lerma deceased at the scene. Lerma was ejected from the 2008 Ford Mustang passenger car with preliminary reports indicating he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling east on U.S. 62 when it was driven off the roadway to the northeast leaving the road and traveling through a barbed wire fence into the pasture where the vehicle overturned ejecting the driver. The exact time of the crash is unknown as the area is desolate and was called in by a passing motorist that saw the wreckage. Alcoholic beverages were discovered on the scene of the crash. The crash is currently under investigation to fully determine all the factors which lead to this death. Condition of the road was dry and the weather was clear.
