Notable local races

•County Judge

Incumbent County Judge Carlos Urias beat out challenger Jesus H. Ramirez in the Democratic primary. The win sets Urias up for a November general election contest against Republican Tim Head, who ran uncontested (with 44 votes) for the seat in the local GOP primary.

•County Commissioner– Precinct 1 (unexpired term)

No candidate received a majority of the vote in the contest for Precinct 1 County Commissioner, so the race is headed for a runoff between Frank Franco and incumbent Cornelio “Naniz” Garibay. The primary runoff is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, 2022. Early voting begins on Monday, May 16, 2022.

•County Commissioner– Precinct 2

Incumbent Raul M. Rodriguez Sr. defeated two challengers in the primary for the Precinct 2 spot on the Culberson County Commissioners’ Court.

•Justice of the Peace– Precinct 2

In the race for Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace, Julie Balcazar prevailed over longe-time incumbent AP Flores.

•Justice of the Peace– Precinct 4

In the race for Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace, Roxann Carrillo Cabezuela easily won that race against challenger Adriana J. Alvarado.
